A note from Nicole

Happy Monday. A missed nap. A cookie negotiation. Pants that are suddenly unacceptable. Some afternoons ask a lot of a parent. This week’s story asks a gentler question: when everybody is losing it, how do you get back on the same team?

THIS WEEK'S STORY

Theo wanted the cookie and did not want the cookie, both at the same time, at full volume.

His mom Jess stood in the hallway holding his shoes, watching her two-and-a-half-year-old scream about a cookie that did not exist yet, and thought: this day has gone somewhere I don't know how to follow.

It had started so well. A great, active morning. Then Theo skipped his nap, and around 3:30 the meltdown began, and it just would not stop.
